Serge the Chow Chow is a stunning black young dog at the start of his career.  He’s a striking young man and grabs attention everywhere he goes, unsurprising as he looks like the cuddliest bear you have ever met.

The Chow Chow is a spectacular looking breed of dog and has an interesting history.  It’s a spitz-type dog breed originally from northern China. The breed is known for a stocky, squared body with a very dense double coat that (either smooth or rough).  These dogs a have lion’s-mane ruff around the head, a blue tongue and deep-set almond eyes.

It is truly one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. Scientists discovered that a Chow Chow has an almost identical bone structure to the fossil remains of the oldest dogs known that dated back several million years ago.  Some of the earliest evidence of Chow Chow’s existence can be found  on pottery from the Chinese Han Dynasty (206 BC to 22 AD).

Some historians believe that they were actually the dogs accompanying the Mongolian armies of Genghis Khan when they invaded China, Europe and the Middle East.  In more recent times Sigmund Freud, Walt Disney, Queen Victoria, Janet Jackson, Joan Crawford and James Cagney are among the many celebrity owners of the breed.

This is a breed that was bred as versatile working dogs for big and small game hunting, livestock herding, cart and sled pulling, and home guarding.  The UK Kennel Club classifies the breed in the ‘Utility Group’ however, guarding is in their history and for this reason, Chow Chows are sometimes considered to be aloof.  Serge, however, is exceptionally friendly and has been appropriately socialised with humans of all ages.

Serge is a fabulous example of the breed and carries all the best characteristics we associate with Chow Chows.  He’s an independent thinker, intelligent and even though he’s young, he’s very dignified.  He’s a magnificent dog to photograph and film.

Serge is a fabulous looking dog with a fine temperament and he has a bright future ahead of him.  He’s still  young so is very much learning his craft right now, continuing with basic obedience training and learning some cute tricks.  This is great for the breed as theses dogs are rarely worked in the skills arena (they’re usually too demure for such activities!)

Serge loves to train and because of this, he has a solid bond with his handler.  He follows instruction well, despite the breed being known for stubbornness.  He will happily work with human cast members that he’s only just met and he will do particularly well with child actors.

Because of his versatility and confidence, Serge can work in any environment.  However, we know he’ll fit a glamourous setting and we’re sure he’ll look incredible in music videos, on a fashion runway, or in a period dramas in stately homes for example.  Without doubt, Serge is a striking boy that commands attention.

Serge can be cast for shorter roles in TV and film; this can be expanded upon as he matures and continues to learn his trade.  In the meantime, you can rely on Serge’s confidence and positive attitude to all he encounters.  Having attended dog shows and live events, we know that he copes well in busy and noisy environments and will therefore thrive in a studio environment, unfazed by lighting, boom mics, cameras and set props.

Serge is a regal looking boy, befitting of the breed’s heritage.  He’s a jet black Chow Chow and a real showstopper; unsurprising since he is five generation champion line pedigree.

A fine example of his breed, Serge can model for appropriate breed specific merchandise such as calendars and signage, books and stock photos.  He’s interesting in this perspective since most people think of Chow Chows as red dogs and it’s less common to see a black coat.  It’s appealing to see black dogs in photography since they’re so striking and look great against any colour back drop.

Serge is still young, but is already happy to pose for photos; he has a solid sit and stay, is fine with flash photography and handles new environments well.  He’s happy to work with human models of any age and we think he’s well suited to fashion and style photography.  That being said, he’s super cute and looks just like a teddy bear, so if you’re going for the cute factor, Serge is the dog for the job!

Serge has a beautiful face that is sweet and lovable, sometimes goofy, but from afar, he can look quite intimidating; perfect if you’re working on a gritty photoshoot brief.  Surprisingly versatile, Serge is an exciting dog model to work with and the image opportunities are endless.

Being so young, Serge is yet to have professional studio experience, however, he has already attended various dog shows, participating in amateur photoshoots and gaining well-rounded exposure and socialisation practice.  Due to his early competence and steady temperament, we know that this is a dog that will thrive in the dog modelling world.
