Boerboel, Nile, is an impressive dog in stature and temperament. This gentle giant is a dog that you have to see to believe. A much loved family companion, Nile is a fine example of his breed, displaying the typical characteristics of intelligence, calmness and loyalty. Nile is the ultimate family guard dog.
The boerboel (pronounced “boo-r-bull”) is South Africa’s answer to the mastiff and the origins of the breed are right there in its name. The Boers are the descendants of Dutch colonists who settled in in South Africa in the 1600s. Loosely translated, “boer” means farmer and “boel” is a large dog, like a mastiff.
Thought to have the bullmastiff as a close relative, the boerboel has the big bones and breed colours that would suggest that to be true. This is an all-purpose protection dog that is useful in hunting too and was once bred to hunt boars. This is a breed that still hasn’t achieved recognition from the UK Kennel Club and didn’t get official recognition from the AKC until 2015, taking nearly 100 years after the breed’s inception in South Africa. In fact, the breed is recognised by the Kennel Union of South Africa, but not by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.
Regardless of what people think of the showing ability of the breed, there is no doubt that the boerboel is an impressive dog in appearance, stature and temperament. Nile is no exception; he’s truly a stunning specimen that is a privilege to work alongside.
Boerboel, Nile, is a stunning dog that has all the physical characteristics of the guard dog that he is. With his partial tail (docked before adoption), he does fit the physical appearance of a dog that you wouldn’t mess with! His presence and stature will make him a good fit for film and TV roles that might require a mobster dog or a canine fitting for a gang related scene.
This fierce looking dog can also turn his expression to goofy, allowing for comical scenes in adverts, commercials and social media videos. He has the perfect head tilt that portrays a quizzical emotion. Due to his giant size, he also sits in a posture rather like a human and can portray a ‘grumpy old man’ characteristic when required.
Nile is a keen learner, always looking to impress his handler and he always aims to impress. His continued training means that he is always ready to learn new skills for the bespoke filming role you have in mind.
This well socialised dog can work with any age actor and he does particularly well with children on set when required. He’s truly a gentle giant. With his showstopper appearance, gorgeous temperament and solid skills list, Nile is a dog with a sturdy temperament suitable for many productions.
Nile possesses the gorgeous red coat that we come to associate with boerboels. His glossy coat, sparkling eyes and attentive attitude makes Nile the perfect giant dog model.
This photogenic dog is experienced in the photo studio and is happy to work with flash photography. He’s a stylish large dog that is suitable for demonstrating large dog accessories and clothing, particularly anything relating to bull breeds and mastiff types. Lovers of big dogs, will love Nile.
Nile is a very versatile dog and enjoys working with props. He’s able to hold a solid pose and works well in any professional environment. He is as happy to work in the studio as he is out on location. We think he’ll look particularly great in urban, gritty settings that are befitting of the guarding aspect of his breeding.
If you’re looking for an experienced and striking boerboel to steal the show for your photoshoot, look no further than Nile.
Nile has experience in the photography studio and took to the studio well, coping with flash photography perfectly. Nile is a steadfast dog that adapts well in any situation, following instruction easily. As yet untested in filmed roles, due to his obedience level and beautiful temperament, we know that Nile has an exciting future ahead of him.
