Breed – Weimaraner
Dolly the weimaraner has a fabulous, active and outdoorsy life with her family who love her very much. Very much the queen of her household, she’s a fabulous representative for her pedigree breeding and is in beautiful condition, exhibiting all the traits we love about the breed.
The weimaraner’s origins are believed to date back to the early 19th century in the German state of Thuringia. The breed was developed by nobles who aimed to create a versatile hunting dog that excelled at tracking and retrieving game, especially larger animals like deer and boar. They were bred to be versatile hunting dogs that could work in various terrains and conditions. They were known for their keen sense of smell, speed, endurance, and ability to handle both water and land retrieval.
To create these distinctive qualities, various breeds are thought to have been crossed, including Bloodhounds, German Shorthaired Pointers, Great Danes, and various scent hounds. The breed’s unique silver-grey coat colour is a result of these crosses. In the early stages of the breed’s development, ownership of weimaraners was strictly limited to the nobility and the royal court. This exclusivity helped preserve the breed’s qualities and traits.
The weimaraner’s history is rich and fascinating, blending noble lineage with versatility and functionality. Whether as a hunting partner, a devoted family member, or a competitive participant in various dog sports, the Weimaraner continues to capture the hearts of dog enthusiasts around the world. Today, weimaraners are cherished as loyal companions, versatile hunting dogs, and active family members.
This breed has regular appearances in popular culture. For example. four weimaraners were used in the video for the Pet Shop Boys song, I Don’t Know What You Want But I Can’t Give It Any More, in 2002. In film, we regularly see the exuberant breed. For example. In “Best in Show” (2000) the mockumentary comedy film features a Weimaraner named Beatrice, owned by the character Hamilton Swan. William Wegman is a renowned artist known for his whimsical photographs of weimaraners. Wegman’s iconic photographs often feature the dogs in various creative and surreal scenarios, blurring the lines between art and popular culture.
We know that Dolly has a similar bright future ahead of her and she’s really a grand dog that everyone loves to meet. She’s grown up in a household with fellow pointer, Dora the vizsla, also on our roster here at The Animal Talent. The duo can work as a pair as required.
